Default RE: Onboard Starters for Gas Engines

Ok guys. My starters are pretty simple in design and construction. They are all custom designed and fabricated in my model/machine shop to fit individual engines. I have not looked at any new motor or battery setups because these guys pull a ton of amps at startup. The brushed car motor and high discharge nicads work and last years. If you want to experiment, go ahead. I have something that works 99% of the time but still takes some technical tinkering.

The starters from Hobby-Lobby work but are not as reliable over time. I have one and still like my design. The starters for the Fuji engines (not from Horizon) are about the same design as the FEMA from Hobby lobby.

You are going to spend about $200-250 for a starter including batteries no mattter what you buy.

The starter shown on the last post from Forgues is the ultimate starter system and almost scale in location and operation. I don't know the cost but assume from the high quality that it will be pricey.

Any good machinest can build a workable starter. It will take some experimentation on gearing ratios. I have pretty well got all the standard engine ratios worked out. I just started this post because of the interest generated by my video. There is not enough volume in onboard starters to make anyone rich but I have fun playing with mine.
