RE: Onboard Starters for Gas Engines
Robby,
I'm not sure going to the level of detail you suggested will be worth my time. Most modelers don't want to add one ounce of extra weight and don't want the complication that a starter will add. I have spend about 20 years developing a system that works for me and part of my success is that I have had every failure that could be imagined with these starters. Each failure added to my experience and has made the system now almost bullet proof. But today I had one of the starters fail on my twin because the electric motor screws came loose. I applied some blue Locktite and I am back in business. You have to want to fool with the complication of the mechanics and have some level of mechanical ability to make these things work.
If I get more requests for the same info you suggested then I will set down and do a detailed description of a starter for the Zenoah G38. That is the simplest and most successful starter that I have right now. You can build it for about $200 including the battery pack with mostly stock parts and some minor brazing and machining. If someone has a burning desire to put a starter on a G62 or other larger engine I can also provide that info.
