RE: A good third plane?
Since you love your Kavalier, and mention the Great Planes Extra 300, that's my recommendation. Sounds like it will fit your flying aspirations, and it can be flown gently.
Not to disagree with anyone about the Sig Someth'n Extra, but it's short coupled and agile, and the Extra 300 is a little longer, looks a little more elegant in those loops & rolls.
Or, build them both, they're not very expensive!
