Hi Jason:

I have seen those comments by "Red" before. Very good points. In addition, there must be a diode or some other blocking component in the regulators, since you cannot charge thru the output side of the regulator. It won't accept a charge.

So it would appear that a failure of one side should not affect the other side, in addition to the points made by "Red".
