Default RE: Newbie Electronics Confusion

ORIGINAL: Jerrak

With my glow plane, I charge the battery through the switch that runs between the battery and receiver. I figured the ESC would have a female futaba connect that I could charge the battery packs through, but I don't see one in the picture. Question, do I need a female BEC connect with bananna plugs to charge the batteries or can I charge backwards through the ESC? I'm not much of an electrician, but the latter option is setting off a little red warning light somewhere in the back of my brain. Once again, any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Tom
I don't know anyone who charges backwards through the esc and doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Everyone I know takes the battery out of the plane and plugs the battery into a charger.

As far as which motor to use, if you are flying in wind, the heavier 400 (one ounce more) will help. If you are using it to train, you'll not want to fly in any wind though. You'll know why as soon as you get it up.

If I were buying another Slow Stick, I'd go for the 300 version. The 300 is lighter, a little easier on batteries, and runs better on a smaller pack. Once the wife gets better and is not crashing anymore, and you start thinking about lipos, a small motor like this will make a nice upgrade. Not only will you have a bit more power, but for the price, the brushless motor will last a lot longer. These motors can be found for less if you are willing to look around.
