Remember back in 7/14 I wrote asking about clicking noises from my .30 when rotated by hand? You were the only one responded.

The clicking came from momentary cam reversals just past lobe peaks, abruptly stopping after taking up excessive backlash in the cam drive gears. It probably is of no consequence when engine is at running speeds. Momentum of the cam shaft should prevent reversals then. The clicking just bothered me. I had to fix it.

Now the problem had been fixed to my satisfaction. I have to put my ear right up to the engine to even hear the very subdued clicks. It took two tries to tighten up the gear mesh sufficiently. A total of .006 inch was removed from the cam box by lapping. I also replaced the rear bearing that was a little rough.

It now feels like a precision piece of machinery, smooth and without the "clackety-clack".
