RE: Tiger Tail!!!!
Wow! good to see I'm not the only person who is into the old style pattern planes. When Southern R/C went out of business my parents and I were living in Pensacola, FL, and it just so happened my dad was good friends with Ron Chidgey, Tony Stillman, Steve Helms, and Rhett Miller. Anyway, my dad bought a lot of their inventory, and we still have quite a bit of it left. There's a fiberglass fuse or two which I believe were made for the Tiger Tail towards the end of it's production run, I could be mistaken though. We also have a couple of sets of foam cores (most Southern R/C designs used the same core, that distinctive double-tapered wing). I don't know if any of you has ever built one of their planes, but the sheeting wraps around the leading edge of the wing rather than having a balsa leading edge. Anyway, when I started flying my dad still had his Compensator in flying condition, so when I got good enough we started competing. Sad to say the compensator bought the farm due to radio failure, but one of my current projects is building a memorial to it. I got my hands on a Gator Flea (the .40 size Compensator). I plan to finish it exactly like the compensator was. Anyway, I guess I've rambled on enough. It was nice to wax nostalgic for a minute though.
