Default RE: O.S. Wankel info?

Parkerm - I was injured at work a few years ago and couldn't even afford fuel. Folks at the field were giving me bottles of this and that. One guy gave me quart of castor. Another gave me a quart of pure nitro. Every time somebody gave me some fuel I poured it in with the rest. I have no idea what the alcohol/oil/nitro/oil-type content was. All my engines ran great on the stuff though. Surprised the heck out of me. That includes my 2-strokes, wankel and my 4-strokes.

I finally finished off that fuel this season and I bought some 10% 2-4 stroke wildcat fuel. Not any of my engines will run on that fuel. The idle sucks, the engines quit, the mid-range is warbly and unpredictable. I spent some time with some of these engines on the test stand by resetting the needles but no luck.

The only other fuel I have is 30% heli fuel which is what I put through my wankel for the first time last weekend. Probably really bad fuel for it but it ran great.

Back to the nipple thing. My over-heating problems were when I was using my custom mutt dog fuel mix so that might have something to do with it.

I wish I knew I could change the carb/muffler relationship. The way mine is set up it's a super pain to hook up the throttle linkage. It's done now so I'm not changing it but if I ever put the wankel in another airplane then I'll look at making the change.

I wish they would say something one way or the other about what that nipple is and what to do with it in the instructions. Seems like a serious omission to me.

But I do love my wankel. I'm not having idle problems exactly. I'm running 30% fuel and the plane is so light that it just won't slow down. Our field has a short approach so when I'm trying to tweak the attitude at the speed the plane is going it doesn't just change attitude - it also climbs 10 feet and floats the rest of the way across the field.

So my goal at this point is to slow down the engine, use a slower prop and probably change to a more appropriate fuel. I used to buy Wildcat 15% synthetic/castor mix but I wanted to try non-castor because I hate cleaning that stuff off my planes.

Anyway, I think it's a good engine. No real problems with it. I'm just not treating it properly. But it doesn't complain about it. I would recommend the engine to anyone who wants something a little different.
