Default RE: Need info on OS .40 FP

Broke...

The FPs have been discontinued for a number of years, so OS hasn't "turned it's back" on it. Ford/Chevy/etc don't spend a lot of time talking about their 1980's models either.

The FPs are, and were a generally good "all-purpose" motor. They are comparable in performance to the LA series engines of today.

These are not "screamer" engines, but instead seem to do a little better with a SLIGHTLY larger than normal prop and a lower rpm.

Being a bushing engine, they will last longest and generally perform best with a fuel containing 20% oil and a fair amount of castor.

Adjustments are the same as for any other engine with an airbleed carb.

Have fun with it.

One of the tricks we used at our field to help a newbie get his ARF trainer off the ground (tall grass) when powered by an OS.40FP was to drop back to a 10x5 prop. It made all the difference in the world. The 10x6 wouldn't let the engine rev up enough to get into its power band. Yes, this will work with an LA too.
