I've seen it mentioned too, but never really tried it on the locomotive gears. When I built the Leopard, I actually used the half hour system( forward and backwards) on the gear box and both motors and greased it again before even installing it in the tank. Have no idea if it actually helped any. Couldn't have hurt tho'.
