Are those two (afpd and G3) allow you to use your transmitter (I have a JR XP6102) ?
UM...you will find that charging and using your TX for a simulator is a ROYAL PAIN. I did it for a while. Consider getting a sim with it's own dedicated controller. Then you can use the sim any time you like without regard to whether your tx battery is charged, in the garage, in the car, behind your pile of plane parts etc....
I have flown AFPD, G2, G3 and reflex. they all suck IMHO. BUT....if you can fly G3, you can fly, (control-wise anyway), the rest is psychological and weather-related. AFPD is the best looking of all of them, but it's too easy to master IMHO; prolly better for more advanced guys than me, (great for 3D).
All that being said, sims are just a convenient way to get some familiarity with the controls. They are not a substitute for practice. And remember, there is no 'reset' button at the field. (We looked into one, but it was just too expensive to keep all those planes in RTF condition).
