Say what??????
I've got an OS FL-70. I just went to the shop and pulled out the Owner's Manual to verify a couple of things. I couldn't believe what I just read and figured I had to have gotten a couple of things horribly wrong when I bought my FL-70.
The sucker has two very robust looking ball bearings. Honest. The case certainly has bulges where they'd be, and the manual has parts numbers for them.
As for the primary differences between the FL and the Ultimate and the Surpass, I'd have to say that there are a couple. And what I've seen and read, they are in conflict with what's just been posted here. But hey, check out Tower's online catalog. It's often the last word.
The FL costs $180 and the Surpass costs $210 and the Ultimate is $300. That's $30 difference to the Surpass and $120 difference to the Ultimate. A friend just bought a MagnumFS, and Magnum is a lower cost mfg, right? Well, the Magnum 70FS and the OS FL-70 were both selling for $180 last week.
The Surpass is appreciably heavier than the FL. They advertise the FL as being a lot lighter. It is. The Surpass is 22.1oz with muffler (anybody fly one without a muffler?) and the FL-70 is only 18.3oz with muffler. I bought the FL-70 because it's about the weight of the OS46AX (two stroke). The Ultimate is actually lighter than the FL by about as much as the 46AX is. If the Ultimate wasn't $120 more than the FL, I'd have bought it instead of the FL. But so far, the FL has shown no faults and seems to be a typical OS, excellent.
To sum up the difference:
FL costs $120 less than Ultimate
air bleed vs LS needle
Tower says Ultimate is unavailable
BTW, I just tried to find out if the Ultimate is ringed or ABC or what, and couldn't find out. That might be one reason for the difference in cost.
