For them, producing two tanks with seemingly subtle differences (most likely minor differences according to HL) means a great deal of economic sense.

If they get one of them correct, either PZ III or IV, I will buy the one that's scaled to the most correct dimensions.

Cheap? Of course they are. I don't think, however, that Tamiya is going to attempt anything similar any time soon.
