I would only run silicon shock oil, as the viscosity will not change during temperature changes like regular oil this is why shock oil is made from silicon. So in my opinion yes only run shock oil but yes I guess you could run something else but I will not in mine. Being I have been a motorcycle mechanic and machinist for over 30 years I believe in running the proper stuff for the application.
