I agree with Warlock in that there is money to be made with R/C heli camera platforms, although I love the 50' telescoping pod as well, with which I have shot with the camera
inside of a foliage canopy-someplace a heli cannot go.
With our 50' pod attached to my truck, I was somewhat limited in placement (have to be able to park a 5,500lb+ monster, and cannot compensate for very steep areas side-to-side), and as Warlock mentions, the altitude limit is absolute. On the other hand, it's an incredible piece of equipment for a variety of production challenges. The gentleman who bought my old unit is:

Our company is configured differently than most...I've take some heat for this before, but I don't advocate trying to run a business on how little you can spend. The success of our business model supports that idea.
MikeDD's link does show a significant number of R/C heli operators, and I know that those do not include some of the more successful companies. There are some pretty healthy businesses "out there" with R/C heli's and other similar-species platforms as their core.
