Default RE: Gas Engine Question

I am relatively new to gas, only "switched" less than a year ago. My first engine was FPE 3.2 and it is in a SIG Sundancer biplane. At first, it ran rough, burbled a lot in the air and was hard to get adjusted. It spewed black goo all over the plane (as I subsequently learned is normal for new engines).

For the past 6-9 months, the 3.2 has run about as perfect as one would want. It flys the Sundancer around like the wind tossing a rag doll. It turns about 6600rpm with a Bolly wood 22X8 prop; the idle is very steady and the transition is the most responsive of 4 gassers I now own. In fact, the transition is instantaneous.

There are at least two other FPE 3.2s at our field and from my observation, they are reliable and run very well.

Hope this helps.

Larry
