Separates + Computer Radio: fun
I finally went separates on my BCP with my Eclipse 7 radio, and I have to say that it is a whole lot of fun playing around with everything. There's so much you can tweak, especially with the throttle and pitch curves settings for different flight modes. (Note: the endpoint adjust on the throttle channel [3] defaults to 100%, but can go to 125%). Two knobs on the Eclipse let you adjust the hover pitch and hover throttle in real-time, around the center settings you come up with. You can get a high head speed and low pitch for zipping around in hover or a lower head speed and more pitch for more stability.
It was easy to set up a pitch curve in NOR mode that had full negative pitch at zero throttle but a 30,60,75,100 through the rest of the stick. This is so I can get some downward thrust if I get a wind gust in NOR mode, but also I did it as a way to have something approaching a blade feather action when I'm spooling down.
I used Electri-Fly brushed ESC's and a G90 gyro, which I had previously had working with a modded 4-in-1.
I'm not happy with the weight of the Hitec RX, and am getting a few hits, and so I just ordered [link=http://www.castlecreations.com/products/berg_7-channel.html]the Berg 7P[/link]. That should take care of both problems.
Speaking of the hits, at first it was unflyable it was so bad. I suspected the main motor ESC was interfering. To test this theory, I configured a throttle curve that was 0,100,100,100,100. That way I could fly it at full power, meaning no PWM (direct DC) from the ESC. Aha! That was it. Besides being way too hot a chopper for the living room (head speed galore), there were now no glitches at all with direct DC on the main motor. So I moved the ESC away from the RX. That improved it a bit, but not enough. Then I moved the antenna to the right skid, further away from that ESC, and it helped a lot.
Next is brushless. More power!
