If you clean the covering first with Acetone, they will stick forever. The advantage of having them outside is that you can easily adjust the amount of weight, should you need to. (To get it off you have to cut through the double sided foam tape that holds it on.)

And of course of one if them falls off, the airplane will be noseheavy. Not nearly as much of a problem as if it were tailheavy.
