Default RE: Gas Engine Weights - 50cc WEIGHT Class

Chris,

Let it run for a bit. I don't think there is any harm being done, especially with the muffler arguement since a few engines don't have a "stock" muffler when they are sold. Brison is one of them and it's pretty much considered standard to go with the Bisson down draft Pitts for most.

It's actually rather funny to see so many that were self convinced that they had the lightest, most expensive, or most reliable engine on the market, and now the reality rug has been yanked out from under them. So many place far too much importance on an ounce or two. Every engine needs a source of ignition, battery or mag, a prop, and some sort of muffler. You have to go with what is commonly out there and frequently used. The truth can sometimes be painful, but it's still the truth.

For me, I truly appreciate all the effort that's been expended for people like me to have access to a chart that provides average engine weight and price data. That takes a lot of the engine selection mystery out of setting up a new plane, or seeing if what I have may work on the next one I'm looking at.
