RE: U Can Do 3D
I,M BACK!!! After a dozen or so flights and some up-thrust & right thrust changes,I finally got back DOD this weekend with my 3rd U-Can-Do 60. It takes a few flights for me to "warm up" ,there always seems to be something off or different the first attempt, but after a few tries I settled down and got another hovering tail touch. I guess it must be me,not the plane,I have to really focus on the planes attitude or else it gets too far out. The "sweet spot" in a hover is really quite small. Its weird,I cut my prop just 1/4 " shorter and tapered the tips a little more and now the plane will slide down a whole lot in a hurry,I swear I'm dropping 10-15 ft. sometimes without losing control. I have to be real careful not to slam the rudder in,which the next flight I did with the whole plane! It was humid and about 85 deg.,my engine must have overheated when I was 5 feet up,I let it drop to 2 feet, then I went to full and it still came down and I ran out of space to the fence(which I was lower than),I had to roll since it came out sideways but I had no control & & hit the ground at the wing tip, then nosed in. The only damage was the prop and a little crack in the aileron tip,it only had 2 feet to fall, with a little luck I could have had a hover landing! I also tried some rolling harrier elevators into the wind,it actually works, just a little less throttle and it starts coming down and moving just a little bit forward,I got to about 20 ft. and bailed out. If I practice this some more,I can see getting even lower, that would be so cool, rolling harriers down to 10 ,5 ft??? The Do rocks on-right Barry?
