I was in the same position, I knew my 3rd chopper was going to be a t-rex SE. While I know there are a lot of spektrum fans, I just spent the money and got a 9c super. It works great on the blade as well. My logic is thus:

I am going to have $1,000 in the air ready to turn back into an erector set at any moment. Why not spend $450 on something safe in my hand that will take me where ever I want to go with the hobby.

Of course I also wanted compatibility with the other 10 receivers I have for my airplanes. So perhaps it wasn't that hard of a decision.
