Default RE: Brillelli 40GT and QQ 73" yak thread.

randy racer,

It's close but I think the gasser can work. Mine used to have an OS 1.60 but as Bob pointed out the difference in weight between the OS 1.60 w/pitts, pump, and everything else was ~7oz lighter than the brillelli GT40, but much of that can be made up with a smaller gas tank. In the end I expect my plane to only have a 5oz penalty for going gas which I'll live with as glow fuel is expensive and the nearest LHS is an hour away.

If it does fly poorly I have a few things I can do to fix it:

Switch to a HS-81MG throttle servo: .84oz
Switch battery from 3200 nimh to 2000 nihm: 4.35oz
Switch from hitec rx to burg 7p: 1oz
Remove wheel pants: 5oz

So I could take off 11oz pretty fast, and with the cost of fuel, it wouldn't be hard to justify the cost.

I should also note that Bob's plane came out to be 12.2lbs ([link=http://image.rcuniverse.com/forum/upfiles/26509/Mj24554.jpg]See chart[/link]) using pretty light stuff, but it could be even lighter without wheel pants, sulivan tailwheel, ligher batteries, etc....

I guess my point is that with careful selection of parts it is possible to have this plane under 12 lbs even with a gasser on the front. Mine won't come out that light, but if it flys poorly, I can spend a little money and get it light.

Later,
schu
