Why is the parts count so important?

If the kit has an item that is made up of 2 parts, but when the manufacturer decided to make this as one piece, whats the big difference. Or are you refering to the ARF, having less formers, or less ribs and such like?

Remember I have never built a kit. I opened the box on one once
