Default RE: Norvel Engine FAQ

Most of the Norvel .06 and Wasp .06 parts can be interchanged. The exception is that the carbs have different methods of attachment. Also, if you order a Wasp crank for your Norvel, you will need a spinner nut for it as later Wasps have a threaded stud instead of being internally threaded for a screw. Early Norvels as well as the Wasp use a tapered collet to support the prop drive washer.

On the carbs, the barrels are different diameters.

Yes, you CAN make an AME out of a Big Mig by installing an AME cylinder and piston. But be aware though, that the .049 and .06 cylinders are not interchangeable. You can swap .049 and .06 cranks as they'll fit but the .06 has more throw. If you install one into the other, you'll change the timing AND the compression ratio. Finally, .049 and .06 rods are a different length.
