no, the batteries goes direct in the unit. The Unit switch is used to switch-on and off. (fully electronical, no mechanical part involved other than the pin, that even if he fall out, nothing happen)
you can, if wanted add a switch, but is your choice, and he is not needed. He is just a point more of failure
