The magazine ads are generally placed a few months prior to actual publication...and are therefore a bit aged.

As for the news coming from a competitor, the news of cancellation apparently came from a competitor (Mike McConville) through his team, and is only a handful of days old.

It would be fun to have TOC happen again....It was quite a bit of fun last year.
