It would appear you can...the dimensions are the same as the motor I am using - 20mm x 40mm. I got the 'cool red' aka 3500KV Shogun brushless motor from Hobby Lobby and it works pretty good with a 9-tooth pinion. Depending on the KV, you might need a different pinion. Also, keep an eye on your motor temp...I found out with my previous brushless motors that anything over 190F to 200F is going to lead to motor failure!
