Default RE: HANGER-9 ShowTime power source

Sorry to have thrown the gas engines into the mix! =)

I have only recently discovered gas engines, and I really like them. One of the advantages, like I mentioned, is the onboard ignition system. Sometimes glow engines, even if tuned correctly, don't idle for too long. Gas engines, with the electronic ignition, have a more steady, reliable idle I've found. Now, you can always put onboard glow on your plane, and it may end up weighing a little less even, and that would solve that issue. So, it's really just a matter of preference. The BCMA 26cc gas engine is a really good match for this plane, and it sells for about $275. As far as gas engines go, it's very light. And, gasoline is much cheaper than glow fuel.

A lot of people buy gas engines, run them a few tanks, and give up, thinking the gas engine is not going to be powerful enough. The fact is that it takes 2-4 gallons of gas to break in a gasser, and during that time the performance will go up and up. When I first flew the Showtime, it seemed like it barely had enough power to hover. Now that I've put about 20 hours on the plane and engine, vertical performance is unlimited and it easily pulls out of the hover. I did not need any extra weight to balance it out, either, I just moved the Rx pack toward the rear of the plane.
