RE: Air Hogs Aero Ace!
TRUE STORY- I was flying my B ch. mono wing Aero Ace at a local school playground on July 15 when it got too high and went out of range. I chased it until it was caught by a big ol' Georgia pine- about 75' above the ground. I could see it, but no way I could get it down, so I figured I'd just write this one off. After all, I still had six more at home-(picked up while Target had their $17.48 twofer specials this Summer). Anyway, I was passing by the school today, and decided to stop and check to see if the little guy was still in the tree. Nope, it was gone, so I got brave and decided to make a long hike through some very thick, snakey undergrowth to see if, by chance, it had fallen to the ground. Well, guess what- I found it lying on the ground not far from the base of the tree. It was partially covered by leaves, and when I cleaned it off I could see that a large chunk of foam was missing from the side of the fuselage, and the receiver/charger module was hanging out of the plane. There appeared to be some teeth marks on the fuse, so I presume a critter (dog, racoon,...) took a few nibbles, and then moved on. I took the plane home, thinking I would give it a decent burial after all it had been through. But, since it was still fairly clean, I figured I'd hook it up to the charger just to see what would happen. Now, remember- this receiver had been "on" for 3-1/2 months, and had been rained on several times. Unbelievably, the green charger light came on and stayed on for six minutes! I ran the motors for about four minutes (they worked fine!), and then charged it again. This time it took a ten minute drink, and then seemed to run on forever. SIMPLY AMAZING.
