Most trainers are tri-cycle landing gear planes, 3 wheels upfront, nose wheel turns to steer plane, usually coupled to the rudder control. Taildragger's have 2 wheels up front, and a small tail wheel on the tail, that is usually attached to the rudder in some fashion. This means that the plane pivots on the 2 front wheels, and the tail swings around.
