Yes Tony, it is absolutely fantastic. I remember thirty years ago dreaming about the day small turbines would become a reality. I was out of RC for a long time but every few years or so would pick up an RCM to see if anything was developing in turbines. The last few years have been incredible.
Sounds like you've got a nice running 500 but we still hear about problems with the smaller turbines. It seems like some run great and some don't. It's probably just a matter of time before the smaller turbines become just as reliable as the bigger ones.
The great thing about RC jets is how things continue to improve with time. The small turbine field has a lot of new players with the RAM 500, Simjet 700 and 1200, SWB Mamba and the JG-50 Bee. I can think of nothing better than for all of these little turbines to prove themselves with time. Like a lot of other jet modelers I would love to have a little one-piece model I can throw in the car and get ready to fly with minimum set-up time.
I think the next few years will be a very exciting time. Let's hope we can stay safe and out of the over-active imaginations of the government and media so we can continue to enjoy this wonderful hobby.
