I'm ready to install brass water pickup tubes in one of my boats. And I'd like to do it right the first time

.
The boat is about 50 inches long with counter-rotating Dumas 1.75 inch 3-blade props (typical Dumas Dauntless/American Enterprise/PT109 setup). They'll be direct driven by Graupner 700 BBs. The directions put two pickups offset from the props (see attached pics).
My web research has left me confused about proper water pickup tube placement, with several suggestions that are all a bit different --
A. Directly behind and in-line with the propellers.
B. Anywhere within 1 inch of the propeller's center.
C. Offset to the left or right depending on propeller rotation.
D. Close as possible to the boat's stern/transom.
So what would you suggest? Any of your experiences, successes/failures, pictures of current setups, etc. would be a big help. Thanks!
