If the engine just quits when you give it the throttle from idle it was most likely too lean at idle.

If the engine stumbles and hesitates then speeds up with some smoke before running fast, the idle circuit was too rich.

When adjusting the idle circuit on the 46FX, just move the screw in very small increments or you will over control the mixture and never be sure of yourself.
