Default RE: Official HPI MT2 Thread

ORIGINAL: arapoda

Hi, I'm a new member here, from the UK. I've been researching the MT2 for a while now because I'm thinking of buying one. I scoured the pages of this epic topic but there seems to be a lot of mixed opinions on the car (what with the diff gears slipping on some people's cars, etc).

I'd like some fresh opinions as to whether you fine folk reckon it's a good idea to buy the MT2?

I'm a beginner at all this, although I do have a good technical knowledge of cars, etc.

first off, welcome and happy 1st post...

I recently got my MT2 and I love it, I haven't had any issues with it what-so-ever. I really like the 4wd, it helps a lot with the cornering and stability compared to other cars of it's size with only 2wd. Many people on here are going to mention that the stock motor is underpowered, the gears are plastic and it's better to upgrade to the metal ones, and that (in my opinion at least) the stock electronics ARE a little laggy compared to others...

but most of the time, people really like them, HPI has built several different cars off their standard 4wd shaft-driven base (ie, MT racer, original MT, RS4 18ss, RS4 3 evo, racer, and so on...). What i've found is that a lot of the parts from the drivetrain from my RS4 3 are compatible with the MT2, and vise-versa. A lot of people upgrade the engine, radio systems, gears, etc, but that's whats good about it, there are many parts availible... where I live (California) they sell it at my local hobby shop for around $300, a high cost for someone like me who is 17, has a part time job, and works, but it's AMAZING, other trucks that are similar to the MT2 go for about the same price, maybe more, and less...
