Default RE: Sport 40'S

Here's where I am at with my Dumas Eagle Sport 40.

I built it without modification as this was my first boat, but finding out there's a couple things I've learned since building it.

Building it over I would choose not to burry the tanks under the decks without first adding hatches to inspect or remove them. This would probably be done to the underside the boat, and use hatch tape to seal them. Its almost better to go with just a 8 oz tank up front, and build in the radio box behind the motor instead of way in front and having to run a long steering rod.

I would not build in the stepped-in transom, and continue the bottom sheeting and decking to the full length of the hull to keep a flush transom across the entire back of the boat.

I would reduce or eliminate the helper sponsons on the front of the hull. Those are designed to help get the hull up on plane, but are kitted too deep in my opinion. When the tail of the boat is raised to the designed plane height, they start to touch ahead of the rear of the main sponson.

The drain pan was modified and thats about it. They show a flapper/reed plate/ride plate out of ABS and I just went with a simple open drain system the same dimensions.

The last picture is of a Dumas Drag N' Fly 40 which I have a kit of but going to modify it when I go to build it. It's an old design but still available from Dumas. I plan on an open bow and a more forward engine location, maybe sponsons a little less tall and smaller skirting behind them.
