I have to agree with drone on the sim being a good TOOL that can benefit the instructor. I used G2 for 2 weeks before my first lesson
First I practiced taxi and takeoff, next steady smooth climbs, then I worked on right and left rectangular patterns to help me with radio reversal, and mainting altitude while turning. After my first real training session with instructor I worked on slow soft landings. I flew the Pt-40 trainer in the sim and only deviated when I got tired, then I would bore holes in the sky with the cap232 and most of my stick slamming resulted in resetting alot. I flew 4 buddy box flights on my first training session, I was able to takeoff and land the first day.
the second session with my instructor consisted of 1 buddy box lesson to practice deadsticks and then a solo.

I didn't learn to fly on the simulator, I attribute my quick learning curve to determination and a damn good instructor. but I did learn the basics of control and the characteristics of a trainer plane on the sim.

Cheeseneggs I noticed you asked the crew here for advice but did you ever think of asking the person who is gonna train you, presumably your uncle if they thought a foam pusher jet was a good Idea? I think he has the final say about what he feels comfortable training you with. I know what it is like to have a picture in your mind of streaking across the sky doing rolls and loops with a wicked looking plane. but is it worth the aggravation and a possible frustration induced hatred for this hobby, because you decided to skip some steps and go for a harder to fly and somewhat unforgivivng first aircraft.

You don't have to go nitro there are plenty of very nice electric trainers on the market that can be had for a reasonable price. Get a good trainer, practice properly on the sim, and you'll be suprised what little time passes before you are boring holes in the sky with a pusher jet.

This is just my opinion and I have been known to be wrong alot (ask my wife), So good luck with whatever you do and hopefully with an open mind and some help from the RCU crew you will make a desicion that will satisfy you and start you off in this hobby on the right foot
