Teryn You better read the history of the glow plug first and then read my quote again. I'm sure there is platnum in every glow plug made now. But platnum is not mandatory to lite the fuel mix. It is primarily mixed in the metalurgy to give long life to the filament. Heat ranges in glow plugs are a combination wire length and diameter, amount of insulation and amount of steel in the housing including length. Some cheaper plugs have less platinum in the filament to keep the price down and some have just an outside coating. Platnum is an expensive metal .
