I believe the reasoning behind moving the piston to BDC after running is because the sleeve is tapered making the piston a tighter fight at TDC. After your engine is done running and the sleeve cools down and shrinks if your piston is at TDC it could make for a difficult start for the next run. I'm sure it isn't easy on the connecting rod either.
