Racerx, My problem was that they used twice as much solder on the bridge. I think I'll grab an old A controller and mod it out.
I counted the wires on the throttle pcb, same as the new controller. I went through two throttles, about 6 months, and hundreds of flights before I cut through the copper. That was less than 4 sets of batteries. Given the amount I spend with the plane in the air I would guess an average user will never see this problem. I probably went through at least 6 airplanes as well.
