RE: rc airplane kits
First of, Welcome to RCU. This is a great RC community and I hope that we're able to help you find the info you're looking for.
As for you request. I've put together a list of trainers that are suited to get new pilots up and flying. While the list covers all types of trainers (RTF, ARF, and Kits) there are a kits on the list. You can find the list here

While any kit on the list would do you well, if I had to make a recommendation on one I would say the Sig LT-40. It's a very well engineered kit that has outstanding performance as a trainer. Last year I did a build thread on the LT-40, you might find it useful as a reference if you do build a LT-40. You can find that here:
