Default RE: OS 55AX or OS 61FX for a Greatplanes Venus 40?

ORIGINAL: Ed Cregger

Anyway, the OS .61 FX is an albatross around OS's neck. It is over weight, low on power and expensive.

Ed, why do people say that the OS .61 is overweight and underpowered? As a ".61 block size" .61, it's actually one of the lightest modern schneurle BB engines available.

Of all the .61 two-strokes sold on Tower, the FX .61 (23.6oz) is the lightest - by up to 3.2 oz in the case of the porky Super Tigre .61 Ringed (26.8oz). The FX is 2.5 - 3.2 oz lighter than the GMS, TT and ST .61s. The Tower .61 is the closest in weight, at 23.8oz. (All quoted weights include muffler)

As far as power is concerned, the last OS .61 FX I tached (stock muffler) did 13,200 rpm on an MA 11x7 - now that's not bad... not bad at all.
