I don't know about potential, but I have seen people get it over 40 mph.. It comes stock at 30-35 mph, but with a new prop, and some good cells, you will be over 40...

If you wan't to within 50 or higher, you will need to build your own boat, like an areomarine titan 29 or something like that.. As far as a boat, you can pull out of the box, and pop batteries into and drive. This is the fastest thing arround..
