Have fun with your U Can Do build. It's been the funnest plane I've owned.
I make my own rods out of carbon fiber tube and 2-56 rod ends. I'm sure they're not as good as the Central hobbies ones but I can the components at my LHS. Don't know if anyone mentioned but you'll want to beef up the landing gear too. Gjeffers has pictures of how to do it. It's very easy to do and needed. I never did install the tail wire set up. Kept forgetting to. But I've owned 3 Do's and never needed them. [insert: knock on wooden head : here]
The Do's are the best plane around and since I'm the only one at my field that flies one I look like a genius. [X(] I'm sure that would change if Gjeffers, Barry and Ron showed up......[>:]
Here's some pics of my Do......
What did you use at the ends of your cf rods? I have had problems with the smaller rods wanting to split in the past. I have used shrink tubing over my cuts.
I use aluminum tubing over the ends. Just a short section. I get CF tube from the hobby shop that is about the same inside diameter as the 2-56 rod then I carefully run a drill bit into the rod. It doesn't really take much out at all. It's just seems to clean it up enough for the 2-56 to fit. Then I glue them in with JB weld and put them in the oven on the warmest temp which is about 170 degrees and leave them in there for about 15 min. I've used these on several planes now and they have never given me any problems.
