Jets at SCCMAS
Dummy me - probably shouldn't have said it..... DOH
Anyways, nothing says that you have to have an "event" sanctioned. The only benefit that we see from obtaining an event sanction is that it gets us a listing in the AMA magazine, FWIW. However, a sanction for a jet fly-in adds rules, etc. Quite frankly, I don't see why the same rules wouldn't apply whenever a jet is flying at a field on a normal weekend, rather than at an event as things are basically the same. Heck, we have about 3-5 jets a weekend right now.
For instance, if the event was sanctioned, I believe that we would have to put up a fence the entire length of the runway. Our runway to the spectator area is a quite a distance (about 125 feet) and we already have safety fence along about 1/2 of the runway.
