Even if everything looks good with the limit switch making/breaking contact, it's still possible that the switch is burnt out, that happened to me, the symptoms were as you described. I haven't found a drop in replacement switch yet.

If you decide to open/inspect the limit microswitch be careful , the spring can go flying when you open it, I never saw mine again! But that didn't matter because the switch was fried anyway.
