I was strongly considering one of these Rafs but I have heard the mains are in the scale position and the C.G on the model is further forward than the fly by wire full size one, this makes them very difficult to rotate. Can those who have flown them confirm that or have I heard wrong?

Hello Jason.
According to the instructions, the CG is placed 130 mm behind the wing leading edge. As far as I could figure out, the main gear will be 270 mm behind the leading edge. So that gives you a 140 mm. I would recommend to move the main gears as far forward as possible and also make sure that the plane has some positive incidence on the ground. It could also help to tilt the main units so that the wheels come closer to the CG. That will help rotation. Here is another picture from the instuction.
