Can you check C:\windows\system\VMM32.VXD (vcomm.vxd) and also
C:\windows\system\LPT.VXD and see if they exist in that directory? If not, do they exist in your laptop directory? Can you copy them if they do?

Those drivers do exist in that directory on my win98 machine.
