Flying impressions
After my first attempted maiden flight my carb popped off, my right Hitec 425bb servo wouldn'y center (but would hunt around - bad) and when I landed an acre away I broke one of my landing gear.
The good news is everything is fixed and the servo has been replaced, a new screw via Bro Ron and landing gear. I even moved the engine forward for what seems to be perfect placement.
I have to say I am very pleased. It handled just like Gator's GWB. I was starting to fear that Gator's plane handled so well because he applies voodoo to his balsa or he is just a great set-up man. I was proved wrong. I did a knife edge all the way across the field with just a hair of rudder and just a touch of ele (this was right after getting into the air). The wind was gustin up to 20 and I knew the GWB's fat fuse doesn't like wind but she did good. With the plane balanced and the weight around 4lbs 9oz it flew very light. I pulled her up into a hover and held it a good long time. I rolled inverted and she needed just a touch of ele. I would say just a little piece of weight and she would be perfect. The wind really picked up and was blowing the plane over so I brought her in ( 8mph gusting to 18mph). It was hard to get her on the ground but after 2 tries she floated on down.
I'm running the Irvine .53 off the the TopCap with the Irvine pipe. It seems to have all the power it needs and that Irvine and like a sewing machine. Great combo.
I cant' wait to get out there in the morning (hopefully still air) and try everything else. I did try a flat spin but wound up doing pin wheels. I think that's what they're called. When I pegged the sticks she kind of spun around the nose in an insane maner. I'll work on it. Lastly this plane just looks cool. Especially with the trans red and flames. If I build the .25 I'll have to use the same scheme and reverse the colors.
I'm very happy with this plane!
