RE: TESTED DIESEL FUELS
MIX NUMBER: 03.................SUGGESTED NAME: SLOPER's 10% Ether Mix .

FORMULA to make 1 litre of fuel with 10% ether content
2.5% ignition improver..... main ingredient 2-ethylexhyl nitrate (direct replacement for IPN)
12.5% semi synthetic engine oil for diesel car use.
16% of modified olive oil
10% ether
8% castor oil
kerosene (paraffin) to make total up to 1 litre
Method to make 1 litre.
Take 1/3 litre of commercial model diesel fuel with 30% ether content and 24% castor oil content.
Add to the 1/3 litre the following quantities...
25mls ignition improver
125mls synthetic engine oil
160mls of the modified olive oil
357mls of kerosene (paraffin)
You will now have 1 litre of the fuel which has a total kerosene content of approx 51 %. The 1/3 litre of commercial mix already contained some kerosene which gives the total kerosene content of 51% in the litre of fuel.
The castor oil is only in the mix because I dilute commercial fuel which already contains it, I haven't found a source for ether yet so have to rely on diluting the comercial fuel mixes to give me
an ether content.
ENGINES
1)PAW.2.49..CARBURETOR: RC /fixed.. RUN TIME: ...........STARTING: electric.
USER:slope-soarer
Comments:used in 5-25°C range. worked well. 20' running times. throttle very good
2)PAW.1.49.CARBURETOR:RC/ fixed...RUN TIME: ...........STARTING: electric
USER:slope soarer
Comments:used in 5-25°C range. worked well. The mix was tested in engines with fixed venturi as well as engines with RC carbs. Idle was very slow and steady. Throttle response was very good. After 4 minutes at a low idle the engines with RC carbs would repond smoothly to quick throttle opening without any "hiccups" The oil content is high but the mix works very well, perhaps due to the high oil content compression seal is improved ?
A PAW 1.49 with fixed venturi ran for some 23 minutes on a 2 ounce tank of this mix, the engine was set up for maximum revs and was attached to a 100 inch wingspan glider.
The mix has been extensively tested and my PAW diesels show no signs of distress or high temperatures when using it.
Other mixes using increased amounts of the synthetic engine oil without any modified olive oil, and also increased amounts of modified olive oil without any synthetic oil were tried. These mixes ran O.K but were not quite as good as when both olive oil and synthetic oil were incorporated in the mix. No doubt the ether and oil content of the 10% ether mix could be reduced, but as it stands this mix runs extremely well and has the benefit of being a lot cheaper than a normal high ether content fuel.
My engines start easily and quickly with just a "choke" prime and a spin of the starter motor. Compression is about half a turn LESS than when using mormal model diesel engine fuels.
