That is very true Ralph, the myth that it was the cranks was bunk. No way Dave could have known short of the test your mentioned.

Before someone gets on here and complains about the cantilever crank, the problem with the DA 50 crank was not the design, it was a crankpin hardness problem...There were about 1000 softer pins mixed in with the good ones..Short of doing a Rockwell hardness test on all the pins there is no way to identify the bad ones, the manufacturer has to trust the supplier....The bad ones were replaced...The last 5000 or so DA 50s had ZERO crankpin failures...
